About Us

Welcome to the home of Brian and Janice Ropp. We have had the pleasure of owning our home, in Ailsa Craig, for over 20 years and have made many changes to not only the house, but the yard and barn over that time. The home was pruchased from the estate of Janice's third cousin.

We have two children, Darrin (Pam) and Kyle (Erin), who are both married and have places of their own. We also are the proud grandparents of three grandchildren, Ruby, Isaac and Tessa. We have one dog, Holly and 4 horses, Sam, Vern, Summer and Tuffy and Sparkie the pony. Three of the horses are registered Quarter Horses. When they are not being lawn ornaments, we do speed events, trail ride or just go for a Sunday afternoon buggy ride (if time allows you can book yours).

We have renovated and updated the upper level of our home, which was an apartment, and have decided not to rent it out as such but to run a bed and breakfast, bed and bale. Janice’s parents ran a bed and breakfast for 25 years after their family grew up so the concept is not a new one to her.

Owning horses of our own, we know the trials of traveling with a truck, trailer and horses. To find a spot that they and you can stretch the legs is a relief after a day of travel. Our barn has 3 10x13 box stalls and 4 large stand stalls. We offer a separate 100 x 200 board fenced corral for your horses to have a run and play or just munch on some grass. The hay we provide is first cut grass hay and we bed with shavings.

We are also interested in antique cars and horse drawn vehicles. We currently own a 1936 Chevrolet Sedan, a 1951 Ford pickup (restored by our boys and Brian) that won one of the top 10 picks at the Western Fair District Speed and Custom show in 2013 , a 1963 Austin Healy and a 1968 Meteor Malcalm which, was originally purchased new by Janice's father. Darrin is the owner of a 1966 Mercury Montclair and a 1957 Volkswagen.

As for the horse drawn carriages, we have a 2 seater buggy, a 2 seater wagon with removable seats that was reconstructed by Brian, a "Doctor's" McLaughlin buggy which, Janice purchased when she was 15 from the original owners, a pony buggy and pony wagon and a cutter which was manufactured in Parkhill  Ontario.

We look forward to your visit and would be more than happy to show you around our place and the village of Ailsa Craig.
